Excerpts from scrapbook newspaper clipping, undated, newspaper Candor Courier:
EDITOR WILL L. BEEBE DIES
Will L. Beebe departed from this life on Sunday, June 17, 1934......
Will Lyman Beebe was born May 9, 1869 at South Byron, N. Y. His boyhood was spent in Brookfield, Madison County, where he learned the printers trade. In 1890 he married May A. Payne, now deceased, and in 1899, with his parents, Hiram A. and Ellen (Hills) Beebe moved to this village. It was in this year that the "Candor Courier" first saw life with W. L. and H. A. Beebe as its owners, editor and manager.
It is impossible to relate all of the civic enterprises of Candor in which Will played a major role.
One must recall however the Incorporation of the Village, the installation of a water system, the construction of better streets and walks and establishment of a fire department. Will was the first and last Chief of the fire department. With the exception of one year he has been Chief continually since the Fire Department was organized. The older members of the fire department will never forget the hours and hours spent by him in drilling the companies, nor will they forget the pride he always had in those companies.
.....he was a member of Candor Lodge, No. 411, F. & A.M. and of Oneka Tribe, No. 348, Red Men. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Beebe was never active in party politics but for 25 consecutive years he has been Town Clerk of the Town of Candor, usually being endorsed by both parties for the office......
Anna Personeus Beebe, his wife, one son C. A. Beebe of Candor, and one daughter, Mrs. Lionel W Stevens, of Knoxville, PA., and one grandson, Karl A. Stevens, also of Knoxville are Mr. Beebe's survivors.
Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, June 20th, conducted by Rev. L. M. Blackmer, of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Beecvher M. Rutledge of St. Marks Epioscopal Church, Rev. James Sykes of the Congregational Church, Rev. J. M. Coleman of the Methodist Church, and the Rev. W. H. Stevens, of Westfield, PA. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor......
