Bloom man enjoyed antique steam engines
Harry K. Aurand, 85, of Bloomsburg, concluded his journey in this life at 6:50 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, in Balanced Care at Bloomsburg, near Lightstreet.
Born in Salem on May 26, 1925, a son of the late Harry P. and Harriet Kuster Aurand, he graduated from the former Nescopeck High School in 1943. His work experience began with AC&F Industries, Berwick Forge & Fabricating and later, Blue Falcon Forge, where he retired as a draftsman.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg; a 50-year member of the Nescopeck Lions Club and Knapp Lodge F&AM, Berwick; Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; and Clifford Gun Club. He was a life member of Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Co. and served six years on Nescopeck Borough Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and antique steam engines.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, the former Marion L. Bredbenner, Dec. 2, 1988; and a son, Jan Aurand, Jan. 9, 2002.
Harry will be remembered by his wife of 19 years, the former Elizabeth Mengle; three children: Chris Aurand and wife, Rebecca, Nescopeck; Steven C. Mengle and wife, Janet, Bloomsburg; Patricia M. Duncan, Milton; daughter-in-law, Donna Aurand, Pond Hill; five grandchildren: Jennifer McIver and husband, Bruce, and their children, Naomi and Eden, all of Melbourne, Australia; Katie and Kimberly Mengle, Bloomsburg; Jessica Lynn, Glen Lyon; Sean Gorzynski, Nescopeck; and a sister, Mary Alice Fuehrer, Nescopeck. "Forever in our hearts."
A memorial service to honor his life and faith will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Matthew Lutheran Church Chapel, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, his pastor, presiding. He will be laid to rest next to Marion in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Call 10-11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel.
