Daniel served as a Private with the 1st Delaware Infantry, Company C during the Civil War.

Daniel was wounded in the groin at the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg on September 17th 1862.

Daniel "Died Of Wounds" (Vulnus sclopeticum, which means means a gunshot wound without regard to severity) at a hospital in Frederick, Maryland.

He was buried in area hospital cemetery plot 116.
