PORTSMOUTH - Alice Holderfield Yost, 80, went to be with the Lord Monday March 15, 2010. She was born in Petersburg, Va., and her family moved to Portsmouth when she was nine months of age. Portsmouth was where she spent her remaining years.

Alice was a member of First Baptist Church Norfolk, and a former secretary for Jackson Memorial Baptist Church for 21 years. After her retirement she volunteered for Edmark Hospice for Children for several years. She loved being out in her yard and was an avid Roserian.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bernard H. Yost; daughter, Lu Ann Yost Brady and her husband Ron of Baltimore, and two granddogs, Rocky and Olive; a sister-in-law, Ann Q. Holderfield; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church Norfolk by the Rev. Dick Baker. The burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Edmark Hospice for Children.
