Gabriel was the seventh of eleven children born to William Ransom Loving (abt. 1784-1857) and Christina (Rieff) Loving (1790-1849). He was a preacher, farmer and wagon maker.

He married 1st Sarah Frances Phelan in Cole County, Missouri on May 27, 1839. They had four known children, Louisa Jane, Elizabeth Ann, Jesse Rieff and William Marion Loving.

After Sarah's death, he married "Mary L. Clark" (nee Mary Ellen Shepard) in Washington County, Arkansas on Nov. 4, 1860. They had six children, Flora Ellen, Christa Ann, Mary Frances, Josephene, Carrie Lee and George Washington Loving. She died three days after giving birth to George.

Gabriel had two other wives, a "J Rhoha", shown in the 1880 census and "Mary Ann Smith" (nee Mary Ann Phillips), whom he married on Dec. 10, 1883. There was no issue from these marriages

He was buried in the Wesley Cemetery, but no marker has been found (there are many graves covered by unmarked, stone slabs, as shown in the photo).
