Mrs. Marry E. Orr, 92, of Nebraska City, passed away at her home on March 29, taking from the community it's oldest native-born citizen, who was born at Civil Bend on the same day Franklin Pierce was elected President of the United States - November 4, 1852. Civil Bend was settlement near the present site of Percival, her parents coming to that locality when Iowa was only six years old. Mrs. Orr attended the schools of that day, which provided no desks, and only long seats of split logs. Book were scarce and slates were a luxury, and the dirt floor would get cold in the winter. Later she attended Tabor College, which was organized by the first settlers of Civil Bend. Her parents, Mr and Mrs. Kit Keyser, being among that number.
Mr. Orr died in 1925 and since that time she had lived with her children, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. S. S. Fender, near Hamburg, until last year when she took up her residence in Nebraska City.
She is survived by eight children, 35 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. Surviving children are Mrs. Mary Mason, Shedd, Oregon; Mrs. Alpha Smith and Mrs. Stella Thompson, Ogallala, Nebraska; Mrs. Margaret Fender, Hamburg, Iowa; S. L. Orr of Denver, Colorado; C. C. Orr, of Sydney; Mrs. Emma Gibson, and Mrs. Lela Rawlings of Nebraska City. She is also survived by brothers, E. C. Keyser, Madelia, Minnesota, and Fred Keyser, Nebraska City; sisters, Mrs. A. H. Parkinson, of Percival, and Mrs. E. B. O'Canner, from Alliance, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held in Nebraska City on Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Porter Bennett of the Methodist Church, and internment was in the cemetery at Falls City.
