DEATH OF A LITTLE ONE
"Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Bernard of Cogdell, have the sympathy of their many friends, in the sad death of their little son, Basil Alexander, age four months.
The death occurred Feb. 15th., of pneumonia. The remains were taken to Waycross for burial.
Mr. and Mrs. Brnard [sic] moved to Cogdell last year from Poplarville, Miss."
Basil's remains were later removed from Waycross and interred in the Swanson family burial plot in Bayou Coco Cemetery, Kiln, Mississippi. His small headstone is without dates or surname, features a relining lamb, and is simply inscribed:
