Sammy Dean Montgomery, Sr. died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at his home in Salado. Sam was born in Belton on September 17, 1949 to Clinton and Lizzie (Thomas) Montgomery. He attended Belton Schools and worked as a brick mason for over 30 years. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie Foster and Vernice Moon; and three brothers, Clinton Montgomery, Jr., Martin Montgomery and Mackey Montgomery. He is survived by his son, Sammy Montgomery, Jr. of Salado; his daughter, Lori McGowan of Belton; six grandsons, Colby Montgomery, Tanner Montgomery, Justin McGowan, Jackson McGowan, Shane McGowan and Cooper McGowan; five brothers, Lloyd Montgomery of Temple, Jack Montgomery of Troup, Joe Montgomery of Salado, Don Montgomery of Bakersfield, CA and Butch Montgomery of Temple; and two sisters, Kay Stapp of Rogers and Sue Bross of Bastrop. A private burial service will be held on Saturday morning, July 17, 2010 at North Belton Cemetery in Belton. Family and friends are invited to gather at Sam's home in Salado at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Sam's memory to the American Cancer Society- www.cancer.org.
