John R. Baker of Juniata Gap dies at home

John Robert Baker, age 85, of Juniata Gap, well known First Baptist Church Sunday School Teacher and retired foreman of the Pennsylvania railroad planing mill, died at his home this morning at 7 o'clock.

Mr. Baker was born at Ickesburg, Perry County, on February 24, 1861, the son of George W. and Mary (Barkey) Baker. He was married on November 21, 1888, having recently observed his fifty seventh wedding anniversary with Mrs. Lydia C. Baker, who survives.

He retired as a foreman of the planing mill on June 26, 1926, after a period of service covering 30 years and 7 months.

Mr. Baker was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a decan and teacher of the young Men's Sunday School class. He was also a teacher in the Union Sanctuary School in Juniata Gap.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Baker, one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Swanson of Johnstown; one son, Ralph Baker of Juniata Gap; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Grazier of Homers Gap, Mrs. Clara Hengst of Juniata, and Miss June Baker of Altoona, and 7 grandchildren.

Baker ~ Funeral services for John R. Baker of Juniata Gap will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Baptist Church of Altoona in charge of Rev. Carey S. Thomas pastor.

Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Friends are being received at the home in the afternoon today.
