“Mrs. Mary Lee McHenry, age 79 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the Beverly Health Care Center. Mrs. McHenry was born July 15, 1923 at Tipton, Mo. the daughter of Lee H. and Flora M. Hackman Gratz, both deceased. She was married on October 7, 1950 at Brundage, Alabama to John Houck McHenry, who survives at the home.
Mr. McHenry was a former Capital City and Sprint telephone executive and member of the board of directors of the United Missouri Bank of Jefferson City, Mo. A life-long resident of the Jefferson City area, Mrs. McHenry was the valedictorian of her class at the Tipton High School. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia with a degree in business and public administration. Mrs. McHenry was the owner and manager of McHenry's Clothing Store in Jefferson City for several years.
She was a member of the Concord Baptist Church; a member of the PEO chapter BW; a member of the Tuesday Club; a member and past president of the University of Missouri Cole County Alumni Assn. An active member of the Jefferson City community, she served as P.T.A. president and volunteered for many civic and charitable organizations. A long-time member of the Jefferson City Country Club, she was a former ladies club champion and four time consecutive ladies champion at the Willowcreek Golf Course in Sun City, Arizona.“
