Death Takes J. M. Butler
John Martin Butler, 73, of 109-B Chestnut Dr. died Friday at 6:30 p.m. in High Point Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health two years and in critical condition four weeks.
Mr. Butler was born Feb. 15, 1901, in Richmond County, the son of Robert L. and Mary Wilkes Butler. He had been a resident of High Point 56 years and was a veteran of WWII having severed in the U. S. Army. Mr. Butler was a retired employee of Harris and Covington Hosiery Co. and attended the Central Christian Church. He was a Mason for 25 years. Mr. Butler was a past master of Numa F.Reid Masonic Lodge and a certified lecturer. He was married to the former Pearl Jones, who survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Forrest (Edith) Hodgin of 1601 Cook St., Mrs. Jack (Lila) Brown of 107 Marywood Dr., and Mrs. Lester (Margaret) Campbell of Claremont; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Thelma Dawkins of Rockingham.
Funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Cumby Chapel by Rev. Larry Diehl. Burial with full Masonic rites will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will remain at the mortuary until placed in the chapel 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9 p.m.
