Funeral services for Preston Allen Thomas, 69, of Sherman who died at WNJ Medical Center, July 10, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at Victory Life Church in Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Davis, assisted by Rev. Ronnie Lynch, both of Victory Life Church, will officiate. The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Preston was born on Oct. 3, 1939 in Bonham, the son of Ray and Loretta Stocks Thomas. He was educated in the Bonham public schools, graduating in 1958. He moved to Sherman in 1961, where he and Maxine Claudette Thomas were married on Sept. 29, 1972. He served in the U.S. Army and became a retired member of the Army Reserve in 1999. He was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 1995. A member of Victory Life Church, he also belonged to several organizations: Travis Lodge 117, AF&AM; Reeves 11th Texas Camp 349, Sons of Confederate Veterans; and American Legion.

Preston was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diana; son Allen; brother Bobby Head. Survivors include his wife Maxine; a son, Shannon Thomas and wife Kathryn of Pottsboro; daughters, Denna Thomas Orr of Albuquerque, N.M., and Montene Thomas Bryant and husband Mark of Sherman; grandchildren, Christopher and Tiffany Orr of Albuquerque, N.M., Elijah Thomas of Pottsboro, Allen and Elizabeth Bryant of Sherman; and sisters, Cora Cantrell of Dallas and Sarah Wright of Mesquite.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Brott, Perry Elliott, Mike Williams, Steve Elliott, Dan Bray, Christopher Orr and Larry Lyons.
