Civil War: Company F, 7th California Infantry
John W. Haines went to California during 1858 to help an uncle run a farm near San Francisco and was living there when the Civil War broke out.
John W. Haines, age 24 years, enrolled for at one-year term of service at Benicia, California, October 18 and mustered-in as Private, Co. F, 7th California Infantry, November 14, 1864. His enlistment contract shows that his occupation was Engineer. Private Haines was discharged, due to the expiration of his term of service, at Maricopa Wells. Arizona Territory, November 15, 1865.
John W. Haines, age 39 years and single, was enumerated at Calaveras County, California. The enumeration shows that his occupation was Engineer.
