Pfc. Anthony W. Simmons, 25, of Tallahassee, Fla., died July 8 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. PFC Simmons was serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Godby High School Class of 2003. His love of sports included serving as the J.V. team manager of the Godby High School Baseball Team and being a member of the Soccer Team. In his free time he loved to draw. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Renee and Robert W. Miller; one brother, PFC Nick Simmons; one step-brother, Jason Miller; one step sister, Kristina Harris; maternal grandparents, Warren and Sara Matthews; paternal grandparents, Dr. John and Katie Simmons, and Ilene Simmons; Step grandparents, John H. and Myra Miller; numerous aunts,uncles,and cousins.
