Nathan (Woody) Poynter, 79, of 102 Olive, Hillery, died unexpectedly at his home at 4 p.m. yesterday (April 16, 1964). Mr. Poynter was a retired miner and farmer. Born March 31, 1885, in Glasgow, Ky., he was a son of Octave and Isabella Poynter. He had lived most of his life in the Oakwood and Hillery areas. He was married Sept. 24, 1907, in Urbana to Bessie Wolfe, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Carroll of Danville, Gene of Tilton and Derow of Clermont, Fla. Also, six daughters, Mrs. Abe (Marie) Schnorr of Clermont, Mrs. Cleo (Ruth) Dolbee of Bismarck, Mrs. Harold (Alice) Dolbee of Oakwood Route 1, Mrs. Wesley (Thelma) Null of Oakwood, Mrs. Gail (Delores) Green of Fithian Route 2, and Mrs. Richard (Ardith) Goodwin of Rantoul. Also, a sister, Ellen, of Summer Shade, Ky.; 15 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two grandchildren and 10 brothers and sisters. He was a former member of the United Mine Workers of America. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Home in Oakwood, where friends will be received after 7 p. m. Friday. Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don C. Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery north of Oakwood. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 17 April 1964.
