He was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Panguitch, Utah, and was a resident of Las Vegas since 1953.
Melt married Nila Cameron May 19, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945, and was stationed in North Africa and Italy during World War II. On his return from the war in 1945, he and Nila moved to Kingman, Ariz., Bullhead, Ariz., and from 1947 to 1953, resided at Davis Dam, where Melt managed the Davis Dam Grocery Store. They moved to Las Vegas in 1953, where he got a job selling cars. In 1957, Melt and Nila bought an insurance agency, which they called Hatch Insurance. Over the years, many changes were made, but Melt Hatch Insurance is still family-owned and operating in Las Vegas. Melt was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He filled our hearts and home with happiness. The examples he set for his family, his honesty and integrity, and his wonderful sense of humor have endeared him to his family and many friends.
Melt was preceded in death by Nila, his beloved wife of 63 years; and great-granddaughter, Brianna. He is survived by his three children, William Hatch (Shirley), Laurel Reed (Ken) and Cherie Gouker; 11 grandchildren, Jim, Tracy, Cindy (Brian), Tim (Chrystell), Jeny (Jeff), Kenny, Chrystee (Nathan), Stacey (Andy), Jessica (Ryan), Mike and Joe; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Verl Hatch.
Private services will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice in Melt's name.
