Mr. Bachmeier was born June 19, 1927, in Timberlake, S.D. He moved with his family to the Balfour, N.D., area where he attended school. He graduated from Towner (N.D.) High School. He attended Minot (N.D.) State University, then taught for a year near Denbeigh, N.D. He graduated from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, in 1982 with an education degree. He taught in high schools in Walhalla, N.D., and Butte, N.D., and then returned to UND, where he received a master's degree and doctor of education degree.
On Nov. 26, 1954, he married Bernell Twedt near Fergus Falls, Minn. They lived in Grand Forks while he attended graduate school. They later moved to Mayville, N.D., where he was a professor of education at Mayville State University for 28 years until retiring. He and his wife returned to Grand Forks in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; six sons, Terry, Michael (Linda Barnes), both Mesa, Ariz., Jerold (Diana), Bloomington, Minn., James (Sheila), Salem, Ohio, John (Yvette), Bethpage, N.Y., Jeffry (Dana), Grand Forks; a daughter, Mary Beth (Edward Jr.) Birmingham, Chicago; three brothers, Henry, San Leandro, Calif., George (Kathryn), Manasas, Va., the Rev. Ben, San Deigo; sisters, Ethel Schmidt, Velva, N.D., Jean Bachmeier, Rose Kirchofner, both Minot, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren.
Visitation: Tonight from 5-7, with a prayer service at 7, in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Funerals: Friday at 10 in Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, and Friday at 3 in Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
Burial: Vang Lutheran Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
