Amie June Butler Griffin, 71, died Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Cushing. Interment will follow at the Silver Star Cemetery in Cushing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of Palmer Funeral Home.
Griffin was born Dec. 30, 1930, in Cushing to Alex and Amie (Williams) Butler.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cushing for over 51 years. She was truly a child and servant of the Lord.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington School in Cushing. Education was high on Griffin's list of priorities. She graduated from Langston University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and Oklahoma State University with a master's degree in special education and was working on a doctoral degree in school administration.
Griffin married Clarence Griffin Dec. 30, 1959.
She was known wherever she went as a kind and loving person who would help anyone in need. She never met a stranger and you knew that you were always welcome to sit at her table. She was
a terrific cook.
She was involved in her community and church. She was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, American Legion, Business and Professional Women U.S.A., ran for
city council, as well as being a foster mom for over 35 years. Griffin loved
children and her family.
She was a business owner as well as a teacher. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking and helping others.
She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Gertie Wilson; her parents; her brothers, Luther and Lawrence Butler; and her sister, Lena Liggins.
Griffin is survived by her four daughters, Edwina Hancock, Lowell, Ark., Francis
Smith, Oklahoma City, Anita Goodwin, Stillwater, and Kim Williams, Tulsa; three sons, Hubert Ellis, Sam Griffin and Cornell Mukes, all of Cushing; sister, Lois Smith, Los Angles, Calif.; two brothers, Lewis Butler, Albuquerque, N.M., and Rev. Hubert Butler, East St. Louis, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
An Amie Griffin Memorial Fund has been established at the Spirit Bank, 311 N.
