Benjamin served as a Private with the 1st Delaware Infantry, Company A, during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware Infantry on August 7, 1861 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted as being 28 years old, born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, 6' tall, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and employed as a Brick Layer.

Benjamin "Died Of Wounds" received in the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864 during battle.
