Eber Stone was the oldest of six children ( Eber, Naomi, Zerviah, Lucy, Martha, and Mary) born to Samuel Stone and Electa St. John. His parents were originally from New York, but went west to Humboldt County, Iowa where their children were raised.

Eber was a Farmer and Teacher who was one of the first settlers in western Iowa in the 1850s. He married Lucy Letitia Knowles Stone the fourth of five children born to Henry Anthony Knowles and Mary Knowles Collins on Feb. 28, 1847.

He was a hardworking man having served as a teacher back in Milo, NY, and in Iowa as school superintendent, chairman of county supervisors, and a very successful farmer. His new wife moved in with him at his log cabin where he lived with his sister and widow mother, Electa.

In September of 1875 Eber became ill with typhoid fever, possibly by a new well that was being drilled. Lucy nursed him for five weeks before he died 11 Oct 1875. The house was finished and Lucy lived there, raising her sons. The boys prospered and became valued members of the community.
