He was united in marriage to Alice L. Reese on March 24, 1940, in Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union, one child was born, Helena Mae.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; his daughter Helena Mae, and her husband Kenneth Ruhl of Qulin, Missouri; three grandchildren, Becky, Tony, and Peggy; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Bennett of Memphis and Mrs. Phyllis Coffrin of Wyaconda; one niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Lotus Selby.
He spent his entire life on his farm north of Luray until his retirement and moved to Memphis in December 1977. His farm had previously been owned by his father for approximately half a century. Herbert was a member and Deacon of the First Christian Church of Memphis and attended services faithfully.
Herbert will be sadly missed by his wife, family, and friends who knew him as a kind and loving person who always thought of others before himself.
Services were held, Wednesday, April 11, 1984, 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Memphis, Missouri. The Rev. Kenneth Campbell officiated. Ann Luther was the organist. The body bearers were Kenny Monroe, Frank Seaver, Stanley Myers, Nelson Glasgow, John Schleeter and Robert Garrett. Honorary bearers were Alva Lancaster, Frank Glover, Roy Lee Smith, Russell Campbell, and Wayne Fulk. Burial was in the Combs Cemetery, Luray, Missouri.
Arrangements were by the Payne-Gerth Funeral Home.
