Wendell Ransom Andersen, 85, of Burkburnett, Texas, passed away June 17, 2010, at the home of his daughter Susanne Kioki Boden of Twin Falls, Idaho.

Wendell and his twin sister were born March 5, 1925, in Blue Creek, Box Elder County, Utah, to Fred and Elvira Ransom Andersen, formally of Cove, Utah. His younger years were spent in Clifton and Preston, Idaho. When he was 11, his family moved to Cove, Utah. He attended North Cache High School. In November of 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy (at the age of 17) just a year after the start of World War II. He served as a gunner's mate on merchant ships. After the war ended, he was released from the Navy and later joined the U.S Army and subsequently served in the military for 20 years. Prior to his release March 1, 1965, he married Chin Suk Cha in Seoul, Korea, in May of 1964, and was later sealed in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, LDS Temple. He always enjoyed his furloughs with the family back at Cove, where he found time to ski, ride horses and play some table tennis. He enjoyed the military service and excelled in his assignments.

Returning to civilian life, Wendell took up carpentry. His work took him to Texas, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. He remained in that profession until his retirement.

Graveside services were held June 23, 2010, at the Fort Sill Military Cemetery in Lawton, Okla., with full military honors. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Justin Mallory. He was survived by his wife, Suk Cha, and daughter Susanne Kioki (Scott) Boden; five brothers and sisters, Floyd (Joyce) Andersen, Loyal (Faye) Andersen, LaVona Tibbits, Dorma Meinburg and Wanda Jensen; sisters-in-law Lazelle Andersen and Patricia Farquar; three grandchildren, Kamilin Mallory, Chase and Morgan Boden.
