Eleanor Mary "Ellen" Sweany is the oldest of seven children born to Jacob Sweany and Mahala Roof.

In 1864, 27-year-old Ellen married 34-year-old George A. Burrell, son of Arnold Isaac Burrell and Catherine Bennett. They had 4 known children: Jane, Vernon, John Joseph and Frank Douglas.
