Vonda Russell, 52, of Metropolis died at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at home under Lourdes Hospice Care after a courageous 2 year fight against cancer.
Mrs. Russell was a member of Waldo Baptist Church in Metropolis, Illinois, where she was very active in the ladies ministry group. She was born January 23, 1958, in Metropolis, Illinois; she worked in the medical field for several years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at Waldo Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Russell and Rev. Trad York officiating, with burial to follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Vonda was the loving wife of Steve Russell for 33 years and a proud mother of one son, Matthew Russell. Other survivors include her mother, Vera Mescher Reynolds of Metropolis, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law, Veda and Michael O'Hearn of Clarkston, Mich.; mother and father-in-law, Helen and Donald Russell of Metropolis, Ill.; sister-in-law of Gary and DeeDee Russell and Duane and Lana Russell, all of Metropolis, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Jamie Marley of Metropolis, Ill., Jon Michael Russell of Paducah, Ky., Rodney and Jackie Lange of Waterford, Mich., Jeremy and Lori Lange of Franklin, Tenn., and Jessica Stepter of Metropolis; great-nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Jaelyn, and Ryan Marley of Metropolis, Ill., Ryan and Kaylee Lange of Franklin, Tenn.; also leaving behind many friends too numerous to mention.
She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Mescher; and infant niece, Loueca Jill Lange; and infant nephew, Kyle James Russell.
