S/O William & Jane (Maxwell) Ames. Being the oldest child, he was born in Washington Co., PA, but in 1846, the family moved to Williams Co., OH, so he is often listed as being born in OH (all his siblings were born in OH).

From the "Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio, Roll of Honor of Ohio Soldiers" it states; "Enlisted in Company D, Ohio 38th Infantry Regiment on 04 Jan 1864. Mustered out on 12 Jun 1864 at Nashville TN."
Age at enlistment: 20
Rank at enlistment: Private
State served: Ohio
Survived the War?: NO
Birth Date: about 1844

From the "War Department Q.M.C. Form No. 14" it states "Interment in Nashville, Tenn. National Cemetery"
Name: Ames, Franklin
Rank: Pvt
Company: D
Regiment: 38 Ohio Inf
Date of Death: June 12 1864
Grave Marker: Section H, Grave #9938 (actually #9939-see photo)
Remarks: Originally buried: Nashville, Tenn.

**Information from Richard D Ames' book, "Ames is the Name", page 6, lists him as "Franklin". Pages 30 & 32, list his name as George Franklin Ames. Both the 1850 & 1860 census list him as Franklin, as do ALL his military records. I have found nothing which documents his first name as "George".
