M.C.Conoley, Sr. migrated from North Carolina. He was an Ordained Presbyterian Minister. He established the Conoley Community Church and School around 1869.

The following bio is taken from records collected by Odell Maurice Conoley,a retired Marine Officer, and a Conoley family historian. These are excerpts from his writings:

He is the son of Daniel Conoly and Nancy Anna Campbell, who migrated from Scotland between 1798 and 1800. History is obscure regarding his youth, however, on Dec.2, 1835 he applied for admittance to the Union Theological Seminary at Hampden-Sydney, Virginia. On May 16, 1837, while still in the Seminary, he married Nancy Ann Thomson of Virginia. He graduated and was licensed November 7,1869 and was ordained by the Presbytery of Fayetteville,NC on Nov. 10, 1840. From the date of his license he served as Stated Supply for Shiloh Presbyterian Church. From 1840 to 1851 he was pastor for both Union and Grove Churches near Turkey,NC. Grove Church is the oldest Presbyterian Church in the U.S.

In the year 1851 he and his family sailed from Wilmington,NC to Galveston, TX. In 1851 he settled in Brazoria County and was Pastor and Teacher at West Columbia from 1851 to 1858. Selling his land in 1858 he moved to 600 acres near Brenham, TX. He became Principal at Richmond until 1860. From 1860 to 1868 he was Principal, Teacher and Pastor at Brenham. In 1869 he moved to Milam County, TX five miles south of Thorndale where he bought 210 acres of land. A log Church with a pine floor and a log house were built. He taught school for 5 days a week and held services on Sunday in the Church. Thirteen Conoley descendants of several generations taught school at "The Conoley School". From 1869 to 1872 he taught at Lexington, TX and was Stated Supply, Bethal, Georgetown Group, Central Texas Presbytery 1872-1876. From 1876 to 1878 he was Pastor at Mizpah.

Contracting Typhoid Fever in 1878, he died in his home at Rockdale, TX. He was buried in the Conoley Cemetery, near the Church and School which he had founded.
