During the 1860 Census, Newton Siler, age 20, born in Kentucky, was living in the household of his 83 year old grandfather James Moad and his 74 year old grandmother Sarah Moad Nee: Fulkerson in Pond Springs, Walker County, Georgia.
Isaac Newton Siler enlisted as a Private in Company G, 7th Kentucky Infantry Regiment on 20 Aug 1861. Also enlisting with Isaac was his brother, Alvis Siler and his cousin, Jacob Siler.
Isaac deserted on or about 10 Jan 1863 at Arkansas Post, made his way to Missouri where he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 2nd Arkansas Cavalry (Union) under the name James N. Siler.
Isaac never served in the Confederate States Army.
