Louis was originally known as Leib and Lovya. He came to NYC in March 1906, received a degree in accounting from NYU in 1912, and may have been naturalized in 1913. He became a CPA ca. 1913. Louis was a partner at Galenson, Lipson & Co in Manhattan, and he lived in the Bronx. He was a specialist in bankruptcy frauds and was one of the financial detectives who solved the puzzle created by the collapse of the Krueger & Toll match empire in the 1930s.
Louis married Libby Mishelloff in NYC between 1910 and 1914.
Their children were Walter Galenson, 1914-1999, and Dr. Eleanor Galenson, 1916-2011.
