He gladly served in World War II in the Air Force in Greenland, and remained very patriotic always. He had worked in Baltimore, Md. for Baugh Chemical Co. and later for Hess & Clark Co. out of Ashland, Ohio, the latter having transferred him to the midwest. He and his wife chose Fort Wayne as their home in 1958. In 1965, he ventured out into his own lawn, garden and landscaping business called the Plant-ation. He greatly enjoyed his work and his customers for over 35 years. Overall, he operated five locations.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jane; four sons, Douglas of Indianapolis, Kenneth, of Costa Rica, Robert and Richard, both of San Diego; daughter, JoElyn of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Halie, a student at Oberlen College and presently studying in Cambridge, England.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Wayne St., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. John Stephen Park officiating. Calling also from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road. Entombment in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, with Military graveside service.
