_______
George Kramer, son of Mrs. Jane Kramer, aged 53 years, died at the city hospital, St. Paul, on Saturday Dec. 30. His relatives here were informed by wire and the remains were shipped to Brainerd on Tuesday, January 2nd, the funeral occurring from the M. E. church, at 2:30 p. m. under the auspices of the G. A. R., Rev. Clulow preaching the funeral sermon.
The deceased has been a resident of Minnesota for over 20 years, and his home was at Gull River. Some 18 months ago Mr. Kramer joined a party and went to Louisiana since which time his relatives had heard nothing from him direct. In is understood, however, that he being in failing health determined to return home but was only able to reach St. Paul, were he went into the city hospital on Dec. 11th. Besides his widowed mother, the other relatives left to mourn his death are his sisters, Mrs. Geo. Hardy, Mrs. Chas. Griffith and Mrs. B. B. Bartlett, of Walker, and Charles, Fred, Frank and James Kramer, his brothers, of this city. (Brainerd Dispatch, 05 January 1900, p. 8, c. 5)
Even though there is a Civil War Veterans marker (for George Kreamer in the 2nd NY Cavalry) on his grave, there is no mention of his actual service in his death notice (other than the services being conducted under the auspices of the G.A.R.).
1850 Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut census (official date August 1) has the family of Fredrick Craymer, 27, b. Germany; Jane Craymer, 22, b. England; George Craymer, 3/12, b. Connecticut. They are with the family of Luke Merriat, 57, b. England. Jane is enumerated as Craymer within the list of Luke's children, implying she is his daughter. Also, based on George's age of 3/12 on Aug 1, 1850, implying he will turn 4/12 in August, his birth seems to be in April, 1850.
1860 Westport, Fairfield, Connecticut census has the family of Fredrick Kremer, 38; Jane Kremer, 32; George Kremer, 10; plus 5 siblings, all children born in Connecticut.
So George would have been 15 when the War ended and it is highly unlikely that he served. His father, Frederick, however, did serve (from Connecticut).
