Tom was born May 20, 1931, in Mendota, the son of Marion Thomas and Pearl (Harris) Simpson. He was married to Bette Maxine Emmert on May 4, 1968, in Paw Paw; she preceded him in death April 7, 2009.
Tom was a member of Refuge Church of Amboy, Mendota Moose Lodge, Local Teamsters 722, and was a volunteer rireman in Compton.
Survivors include two daughters, Melinda (Henry) Pielach of Mount Prospect and Glenda (John) Kalebaugh of Eldena; two sons, Gerald (Evelyn) Simpson of DeKalb and Marion Thomas (Jeanette) Simpson III of Benton, Ark.; two stepsons, Larry (Barbara) Woodyatt Sr. of Dixon and John Michael Woodyatt of DeKalb; one sister, Joyce (Arthur) Titzel of Sheridan; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Tom also was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Michael Ray Simpson; four sisters, Roberta Tuttle, Anna Holzer, Marjorie Suddeth and Audrey Dilbeck; and five brothers, Robert, John, Wilbur, Glenn and Orin Simpson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at United Methodist Church, Paw Paw, with the Rev. Ken Foster and the Rev. John Kalebaugh co-officiating. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon; 815-288-4469.
