NATHAN KING JEWETT

Nathan King Jewett died at his home in Chariton, Iowa, on June 18, 1908 at 3:20 o'clock a.m. He leaves his wife, Mary S. Jewett, and two children, Alpheus Jewett of Tree-Point, Alaska and Mrs. Etta M. Clark of Chariton to mourn their loss.

Nathan King Jewett was born in Newark, Ohio April 2nd, 1834 and was therefore in the 74th year of his age. He lived at the place of his birth until the war of the rebellion, when he enlisted in Company H 3rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry, serving three years and was honorably discharged.

After the war he came to Iowa, locating in Chariton in 1867, which for forty-one years had been his home.

He was a member of the G.A.R. His funeral on Friday, June 19, being in charge of his comrades of the Civil War. He was laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery by sympathetic and kindly hands.

As a patriot-soldier, excellent citizen, loving husband and father, he bore his part well, commanding the good will and respect of all who knew him, he has now passed to his final rest.
