PVT in the 5th TN Regiment of Foot Volunteers in the Mexican War

George was commissioned a Captain in CO A, TN 3rd Infantry Regiment in 1861.
He was promoted to Full Major on 22 Jul 1862 & mustered out of the Infantry & Commissioned as Major in CO S TN 2nd Cavalry Regiment on that same day. He also served as Major in 2nd TN Cavalry CO F. Film #M392 roll 7.

In Oct 1865 George served as Justice of the Peace, 12th Dist., Blount CO., TN.

George was a member of the Masons.

George's mother was Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Clemmons Hutzell, b. abt 1797 in Wythe Co., VA - d. bet. 4 Nov 1824-16 Oct 1826 in Wythe Co., VA. They married abt. 1818 in Wythe Co., VA.
