A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle as a private with the second organization of Co. F, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865.
He married Josephine Catherine Baker in 1872 in Cumberland County and fathered Jennie (b. 11/03/74 - married a Hummelbaugh). In 1890, he lived in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County
