Services for William L. Chapman, 86, Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.

Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

William died Saturday, May 15, 1999 at Oak Glen Nursing Home, Coal Valley.

William was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Mercer County, the son of William N. and May (Louck) Chapman. He married Evelyn Gustafson Davis Feb. 28, 1970, in Rock Island. He was formerly married to Anna Virginia Petersen.

William retired from John Deere and Company in 1977 after 11 years of employment. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rock Island and the local UAW. He was a gifted organist and enjoyed composing music.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Carol Joekema, Ontario, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Jean Chapman, Milan; stepchildren and their spouses, Roger and Beth Davis, Illinois City, Irene and Orin Rockhold, Milan, and Bruce and Marilynn Davis, Highland Park; a sister, Florence Nelson and brother, Frank Chapman both of Davenport; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Herrera, a son and a daughter.
