Ida Ansel's death certificate stated that she was born in West Virginia, but all of the Census show her birthplace as Ohio. Since she more than likely gave the census information, I am listing Ohio as the state of her birth.

Ida Neff married Elias (Edward) Ansel about 1881 or 1882. After the death of her husband, and the death of her son William's wife, Katherine, in Kansas, Ida moved to Texas with William to help him care for his small children. They moved in the late 1920's and settled in Rosenberg, Ft. Bend County, Texas. After their move, the family tragically lost two of the boys, little Donald, 3, died of a ruptured appendix in 1930, and 10-year old Robert F. died from accidental drowning in 1934. Her death on March 19, 1935 was another heart-breaking loss that this family would have to endure.

The following obituary was published on Thursday, March 21, 1935:

"Ida Neff Ansel"
After an illness of several months, which she bore with true Christian fortitude, the pure spirit of Mrs. Ida Neff Ansel entered into eternal life at 6:30 Tuesday morning at the home of her son William in El Campo. Mrs. Ansel and her son and family moved to El Campo a few months ago at which place she continued to reside up until the time of her death.

The body was brought to Richmond by the Wessendorff Funeral Home. The funeral was held from the home of another son, Leonard Ansel, at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, with interment in Morton Cemetery. Rev. Louis R. Goodrich, rector of Calvary Episcopal Church, conducted the services.

The deceased made many friends during the time she resided in Richmond, although her poor health precluded her mingling much outside the house, where she devoted her life to the rearing of her motherless grandchildren. She was gentle, kind, and had a lovely Christian character.

Mrs. Ansel was 73 years of age. She was born in West Virginia. Her husband died when her children were quite small, but with a strong heart and a mother's devotion she reared them to be fine men and women. She is survived by three sons, William M. Ansel of El Campo, W. L. and Leonard Ansel of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. E. H. Dixon of Dexter Kansas, and Mrs. William Everett of Hutchinson, Kansas, and quite a number of grandchildren, all of whom have the sympathy of the community. * * *
