THOMAS A. WEAVER, 50, of Los Angeles, CA, a former Franklin resident who joined ABC Entertainment in New York in 1974 and over time became ABC's representative for all the motion picture studios, died Friday, July 28, 2000. Born February 19, 1950, in Franklin, he was a son of Herbert and Elizabeth Kunkel Weaver. Mr. Weaver was a 1968 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He attended N.Y.U. Institute of Film and Television as well as Allegheny College in Meadville. He graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University with a bachelor of arts degree in media studies. He joined ABC as a post-production editor in the Department of Theatrical Post-Production, which supervised the editing of all theatrical films. Mr. Weaver left ABC for a brief time, joining Viacom/Show Time, but rejoined the network in 1978 and remained there for the rest of his career. At that time, all of the preparation and editing of theatrical motion pictures were done by the network's staff of editors. Mr. Weaver participated in nearly every level of the process. In 1990, he was promoted to associate director of the then named Motion Picture Post-Production Department. With massive structural changes taking place at ABC, Mr. Weaver was named director of post-production in 1991 and moved to Los Angeles. This move ushered in a new era in the way movies were edited for network broadcast. Post-production was now handled by the studios themselves, and Mr. Weaver served as the liaison between the studios and the network, ensuring the success of this process. Most of Mr. Weaver's time in Los Angeles was spent working with the motion picture studios to maintain the artists' creative vision while meeting the demands of network television. In March 2000, Mr. Weaver became executive director of the department which he had renamed Theatrical Film Projects. His interests were bicycling, hiking, organic gardening and choral music performance. Surviving are two sisters and their husbands, Katharine L. and John E. McIntosh of Bay Village, OH, and JoAnn and Glenn E. Hogue of Mercer; a brother, Glenn H. Weaver of Charlotte, NC; two nieces, Heather McIntosh and Laura Hogue; and three nephews, Andrew Hogue, Toby Weaver and Ryan Weaver. Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Seth Todd Weaver. His mother died June 30, 2000, in Grove City. A memorial service was held Monday, July 31, in St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Hollywood, CA. An additional memorial service will be held in Franklin at a date to be announced. Memorial donations to the World Wildlife Fund.
