George Washington Bruffey was the son of Sarah "Sally" Lewis (1790-1850) and Mark James Bruffey (1791-1870); both of his parents were born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. George was the third son born to that union.

After Clifton died, Georgie went to Wuhu, Central China where she served the Alliance until 1923 when she was stationed in Warren, Ohio, as her sister, Amanda Emma had died 09 Apr 1923 leaving her husband with 10 children.
