Pearl Gilstrap Blackston, 100, of Oakmont West, formerly of the Hudson Road area, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of Bright R. and Mary Elizabeth Chapman Gilstrap, and widow of Lawrence B. Blackston. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Frances Cobb of Pelzer, Macie Armonaitis of Greer, Margaret (Bea) Davis of Fountain Inn, Rachael Y. Secrist of Simpsonville and Betty Jo Blackston of Travelers Rest; two sons, Melvin C. Blackston of Taylors and Joseph David Blackston of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blackston was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

She is also survived by two brothers, Sam Baker of Pickens and James Gilstrap of Six Mile. Three daughters, Inez Blackston, Lucille Harvey and Bessie Lee Hamilton; a son, Bill Blackston; several grandchildren; and 13 brothers and sisters; predeceased her.

The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Section C.

The family is at the home of the son: Melvin Blackston, 103 W. Warehouse Court, Taylors.
