---- A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DENSMORE FAMILY ---
Compiled by
E. A. Densmore, Mason, Michigan
June 17, 1933
November 4, 1844 John Densmore married a widow, Sally Holcomb who had at least two children by a previous marriage, John born 1839 and Noah W born 1841. Sally was born June 29, 1808. By this union, Addison was born in 1846 and Hattie in 1848. And after only nine years of married life, sorrow came again two-fold, when John Sr. died May 25, 1853 and Sally, his wife passing away the next day, May 26, 1853. Each had Pneumonia and a double funeral was held at the Howard School House and Dorcus, John and Sally are all buried in the Howard Cemetery, about one mile from their old home. John being 57 years old and Sally only 45.

Research finding May 2016:
The dates given by E. A. Densmore for John & Sally Densmore's deaths may be incorrect due to a transcription error from the original text [i.e. March vs May]. As stated, the May date can not be correct based on multiple probate court records including the following:
Petition for Probate paper filed 29 March 1853 lists death date as 25 March 1853.
[see attached photo to this memorial].
In addition, Sally's headstone supports this view based on the visible date of 26 March 1853.

Recent [2013] research points to the probability that Sally Holcomb was the daughter of Thaddeus Ball and Lovisa "Lucy" Boardman, the sister of Dorcus Ball, and initially the sister-in-law of John Densmore.
She married a Holcomb.
After her husband died, and her sister died, widow Sally Holcomb married her brother-in-law, widower John Densmore.
Two children by her first husband joined the John Densmore household as his stepchildren / nephews. They were John & Noah Hocum [sic] [from the 1850 census].
