Enlisted on August 1, 1863 at Bronson, Florida as a Private in the 9th Florida Infantry, Company G. Confined on August 10, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of disease as a POW.

Sam Curry Military Record

Sam Curry enlisted in Captain Gary's Independent Company Florida Infantry on March 13, 1863 at Bronson, Florida. From March 13, to August 31, 1863, the company was located at Hodges Ferry on the Withlacoochee River. The unit was combined with other units and renamed Company G, 9th Regiment, Florida Infantry. From September 1863 through early April 1864 the unit was at Camp Finnegan which is located near Jacksonville, Florida.

On May 16, 1864 the unit left for Petersburg, Virginia from Camp Milton, Florida. They arrived on May 22 and joined the Army of Northern Virginia. They fought at Cold Harbor, then to Frasier's farm, then to New Market, and from there to the trenches at Petersburg. On June 29, they fought at Ream's Station. The unit returned to the trenches at Petersburg on July 30, however, Sam Curry was captured by the Union forces on July 29, 1864

Sam was held at Point Lookout, Maryland until August 8, 1864 when he was transferred to the Federal Prisoner of War Camp at Elmira, New York. Sam died at the Elmira POW Camp on November 14, 1864 of chronic dysentery.
