Herbert Buewl Wier was born in Dade City, Pasco County, Florida. He spelled his name Weir most if not all his life.

He was the son of John S. Wier (Weir) and Susie C. Watson Wier Tucker, grandson of Robert Orville Wier and Laura Grant, great-grandson of Samuel Wier and Jane Vance Lusk, great-great-grandson of Thomas Wier Jr. and Mary Withrow Wier.


His draft card gives his birth date, place of birth, and says he had black hair, blue eyes, and was described as "tall." In 1917, he was a "merchant tailor," living with his wife at 59 Parker St., Bartow, Polk County, Florida. He married Corinne Ortagus (1 Aug 1893 - 28 Jan 1990), daughter of Lawrence O. Ignatius Ortagus and Catherine Lucy (Ponce) Ortagus. In 1920 they lived with her widowed mother, Mrs. Kate Mims. In 1929 he and Corinne divorced in Tampa and he married in 1934 to Jessie May but divorced again before his death. Corinne next married James L. Kirkpatrick and later Paul F. Oliver.

"The new Electric Theatre has reopened under the management of Wier and Hargroves. The first night under the new management proved a banner one. Herbert Wier is a local boy, and his many friends wish him success."

His death certificate says he was ill since 1933 and was the owner of Weir's Dry Cleaning for 20 years; died 2 July 1935 at Tampa Municipal Hospital; parents were John S. Weir, born in Charlotte, N.C.,(sic) and Susie C. Watson, born in Ocilla, Ga. Information given by Mrs. Berthe Lucas of Tampa.
