Table Rock Argus, Dec. 14, 1928.

Oscar Delmore Tibbets was born near Charleston, Clark county, Indiana, March 26, 1849, and died at Turon, Reno county, Kansas, December 9, 1928, at the age of 79 years, two months and 13 days. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Atchison county, Missouri, and settled on a farm near Rockport where he grew to manhood.

At the age of 19 years, he obeyed the gospel and became a member of the Christian church.

January 1, 1871, he was united in marriage to Martha Ellen Pangburn. This union was blessed with two bright boys who were sent to gladden and cheer the hearts of the parents, but a short time, being taken at the age of eight and ten years with the dread disease, diphtheria, within a few weeks of each other.

In 1873 he moved to Pawnee county, Nebraska, where he resided until his death. During the time he engaged in various business enterprises in Table Rock. He worked for the good of the community and was scrupulously honest in all his business dealings and with his fellow men, thereby making many friends.

He was charitable and no needy person was ever refused his assistance.

After the death of his wife, May 8, 1927, being lonesome and restless, he visited among his friends and relatives. He was taken suddenly ill while visiting in the home of his sister Mrs. E. E. Hicks and family, at Turon, Kansas, capillary bronchitis and in one short week passed away, proving that life is uncertain and death is sure.

He leaves to mourn their loss, one brother J. W. Tibbets of Table Rock, Nebraska and one sister, Mrs. E. E. Hicks of Turon, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends.

His brother, J. W. Tibbets and wife, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Pangburn, were called to his bedside and were with him when he passed away. The body was brought to Table Rock and funeral services were held in the Christian church at 3 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. A. L. Ogden. Mr. Tibbets was one of the oldest merchants in Pawnee county and conducted business in one building for forty six years.

Gone to begin a new and helping story,
Thy bitter tale on earth now told and done;
These outer shadows for their inner glory,
Exchanged forever- O thrice a blessed one.
