William Ansel, the son of Elias and Ida Neff Ansel, grew up in Cimarron, Gray County, Kansas, where his father was a grocer. In the WWI Registration in 1918, William was listed as a 21 year-old farmer living in Alder, Rice County, Kansas. His physical description was medium height & build, with blue eyes & light hair.

It was probably while living in Rice County, that he met his first wife, Katherine McGlinn, daughter of Michael & Katherine McGlinn. She was born in Kansas, but both of her parents had immigrated from Ireland.

William and Katherine probably married in the early 1920's and were shown in the 1925 Kansas Census in the Township of Center, County of Rice. Both were 27 years old, farming, with two children, Robert F. age two and Elizabeth I. at eight months. The 1930 Census showed that they also had William J., Donald J. and Katherine E. However, by 1930, William, 32 years old, had lost his wife, Katherine and one son who never appeared on a census and was killed by a horse kicking him. His wife and son were buried in Kansas. By the 1930 Census, William and his widowed mother, Ida, were living in Richmond, Ft. Bend County, Texas with his remaining five children, all under seven years of age.

Between 1930 and 1935, William lost two more sons and his mother. On May 21, 1930, he lost two-year old son, Donald, to a ruptured appendix. April 24th, 1934, his oldest son, Robert F., accidentally drowned in a rice canal. March 19, 1935, his mother Ida, died in El Campo where William had just moved his family. Though broken-hearted and grief stricken, he had to carry on and support his remaining children.

I am not sure when he met and married Lonnie Howard Woolley Brown, but together they joined forces and became a supportive family for their children.

Their grandson, Doug Woolley, remembered that the couple retired at Sargeant on Caney Creek. He said his Granddad was a retired Grand Prize Beer distributor, and fished all the time. He even sold bait shrimp at their place on the creek. He also recalled what kind people his grandparents were.

The following is an obituary published in January 13, 1987, unknown paper:
