Charlissa was born on April 16, 1924 in Gonzales, Texas to Arthur Carroll and Mary Inez Patterson Smith. She graduated from Gonzales High School and Texas Lutheran University and was a social worker for thirty years.
In 1943 she married Calvin A. Turner Sr., and they were married for 43 years until his death in 1987. They had four children, Donna Jean (Smokey) Taylor, Calvin A. Turner, Jr., Morgan Blaine Turner, and Shauna Kathleen Bell. After Calvin's death she later married Wendell D. (Lindy) Tucker. She is survived by her children, brother Dr. B. J. Smith of Austin, Texas, her daughter-in-law Janie Kersey Turner, and son-in-law Mark Bell. Also grandchildren Terri (Mrs. Bryan) Blang, Brandi (Mrs. Benjamin) Wiatrek, Sloan Taylor, Jim Turner, and Skooter Bell. She had five great-grand-children, Keaton and Connor Blang, Chase and Kaden Allison, and Whitley Wiatrek. She is also survived by her husband, Wendell Tucker and step-children, Helen Burrows and Wendell Tucker.
In addition to her first husband and her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter Lori Leigh Turner Allison and her step-daughter Debbie Baertich.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxilary.
When her children were growing up she belonged to and supported Church, P.T.A., Boy and Girl Scouts, 4H, Sheriff's Posse and school sports activities. Charlissa loved God's people, her work, being a wife and mother, homemaker and enjoyed music, nature, cooking, dancing, and reading.
A fifth generation Texan, her paternal great-great grandfather Benjamin Duncan owned a ferry on the San Marcos River in Gonzales County. It is shown on the Texas Revolutionary Map of 1836. Duncan was a friend of Sam Houston and led families on the Runaway Scrape. Charlissa's great grandmother Amanda Duncan Bouldin was born on the San Jacinto battle field. Her grandfather, Arthur Bird Smith drove cattle on the Chisholm Trail. Her mother's parents were farmers and ranchers whose parents were early Texas residents and land owners. Charlissa laughingly said she was a true "Seguin raggedy" because of her Scotch, Irish, English, German, French, and Portuguese Heritage.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Turner, Sloan Taylor, Skooter Bell, B.J. Wiatrek, Bryan Blang and Mark Bell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tres Hewell Mortuary, 165 Tor Dr., Seguin, Texas, 78155, 830-549-5912.
