Basil was a son of Henry R. Meriwether and Viola B. Taylor. He married Cecile H. Berry on 8 Feb 1915 in Marshall, Texas. After her death in 1924, he married Lorena C. DeJean on 6 Apr 1926 in Marshall; they divorced on 5 Nov 1938 in Shreveport. Basil did not have children with either marriage.
Basil worked as a pressman for many years, and lost three fingers in a press accident. Suffering from depression over his health, he committed suicide on 13 Jun 1941.
