Solomon O. Simmons was born in Pike Co., MS, on August 4, 1825 and died April 24, 1908 at the age of 83. He is buried in the Solomon O. Simmons Cemetery located on Oakhill Drive, in Pike Co., MS. He was the first child and son of William and Nancy Simmons. He actually had no middle name but, instead, adopted the second letter of his name, Solomon, as his middle initial.

Solomon married Sophronia Varnado, daughter of Samuel Varnado, Jr., on November 29, 1849 and they had nine children. Solomon and Sophronio were active members of the Mt. Zion church of Pike Co., MS.
