She graduated from Texas State College for Women and earned a Masters degree in microbiology, and a minor in art from the University of Texas in Austin. On November, 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to James (Bob) Walker in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Betty and Bob met at a young adult Sunday school class in the First Presbyterian Church where they had been members for several years. Betty is survived by her husband, Bob; three children, Kathy Schlosser and husband Kevin of Cody, Wyoming; Lynn Schmitz and husband Ted of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Jim Walker, QMCS, USNR at Naval Base Kitsap and wife Toshiko, Silverdale, Washington; five grandchildren, Michelle and Molly Schlosser, students at Argosy University in Minnesota and South Dakota State University, Rae Anne and Zachery Conat , stationed at McChord A.F. The two brothers gave their lives during the South Pacific Theater action in the US Air Force. Using the opportunity of Bob's frequent moves around the country employed as a National Park Ranger, Betty had no trouble keeping busy working in various medical research facilities, and taught science classes in several high schools adjacent to the National park they were assigned at the time. Her lifetime interest in art was put to good use in many church school activities; painting flowers and birds on various craft mediums, and technical drawings of a biological and botanical nature.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2010, in First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty's name to benefit the Children's Christian Education program at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, Springfield, Missouri.
