On Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, Diane C. Hawkins departed this life from her home in St. Gabriel at the age of 54. The only child of her parents, she was born Sept. 9, 1953, to Walter and Rosa V. Culbert in St. Francisville.

At an early age, she answered the call of Christ by accepting Him as her personal Savior; she was baptized by the Rev. John Smith at Elm Park Baptist Church in St. Francisville. On March 20, 1977, Diane married her high school sweetheart, William Henry Hawkins. Born to their union were Tremecca "Tamme" and Jackie.

Following the lead of the Holy Spirit, Diane pursued her calling and was ordained a minister at Christian Unity Baptist Fellowship Church under the leadership of Bishop William Cummings Jr. After joining Word of Life Christian Center, pastored by Dr. Leroy Thompson Sr., she became a devoted member of the choir, and later a Circle of Life Lifebearer. In 2001, Diane graduated from the ministry's Ever Increasing Word Training Center - an accomplishment that made her very proud.

She leaves to cherish her love and memory a devoted husband, William H. Hawkins; a daughter, Tremecca M. Hawkins; a son, Jackie D. Hawkins; two grandchildren, Kaila J. Henderson and Jahmynee D. Hawkins, all residents of St. Gabriel; her mother, Rosa V. Culbert, also of St. Gabriel; godchildren, the Rev. Anthony Ford, the Rev. Lawrence D. Hardy, Courtney Lamar and Madison Lamar, all of Baton Rouge, Lena Anio, of Jackson, William B. Smith III and Lyndra G. Smith, both of St. Gabriel, and Debra W., of Mississippi; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Culbert Jr., and other relatives.

Visiting at Richardson Funeral Home, Clinton. Viewing at Word of Life Christian Center, Darrow, until religious service, conducted by Dr. Leroy Thompson Sr.

Obituary published in The Advocate from January 26 to January 27, 2008.
