Bela Snow is my 5 greats grandfather, the son of Samuel and Betty Perkins Snow. As the oldest child of Samuel and Betty, he was the only one born in MA. Bela married Sarah Thomas on April 23, 1800. They had six known children: Nelson, Philip, Velina, Sarah, Bela, Jr., and Chauncey.
"A town meeting was held in the meeting-house on March 1st, 1831, and in the following night the structure was burned to the ground.....................Pomfret now had no public building in which meetings, civil or religious, could be held. Plans for a town house were called for, and the one submitted by Bela Snow was approved. This town house was erected in the summer of 1831 by Oliver Perrin for the sum of $98. It stood north of Laban Chamberlin's house and was a few rods south of the present town hall." History of the Town of Pomfret, Henry Hobart Vail, Vol.1 p 210-211
Bela passed away at the age of 81 in Pomfret, VT.
